Information on early release of LISD students

This morning, emergency services responded to reports of smoke in three Lorena ISD schools. Upon investigation, it was determined that the smoke was caused by equipment damaged by power surges resulting from an issue with the local electric utility company.

As a precautionary measure, Lorena ISD took immediate action and evacuated students and staff from the affected buildings. Emergency responders thoroughly inspected the facilities, and no immediate danger was identified. However, initial inspections revealed that air conditioning units in parts of the affected schools were damaged due to the power surges.

Out of an abundance of caution and for students safety and comfort, Lorena ISD has closed schools for the remainder of the day. This closure will allow district officials to further assess all affected buildings, begin repairs and ensure that no additional damage has occurred due to the power surges.

At this time, there is no threat to the public, and all buildings are secure. Lorena ISD and emergency services are working closely with utility officials and emergency management to ensure a safe return to normal operations.

Further updates will be provided as necessary.
